SA021 Pole Vehicle Safety has been developed for operatives, technicians and contractors who use or work in proximity to pole vehicles during the construction, maintenance and repair of telecommunications and utility networks. The qualification provides learners with an understanding of the hazards, risks and control measures associated with pole vehicle operations and ensures that safe working practices are applied at all times.
Learners will develop the knowledge and practical competence required to undertake pre-use inspections, assess site suitability, position and stabilise pole vehicles correctly, establish safe working zones, and carry out work activities in accordance with industry procedures and relevant legislation. The programme also covers hazard identification, risk assessment, emergency procedures, environmental considerations and the responsibilities of those involved in pole vehicle operations.

• Know the risks associated with operating such vehicles
• Understand the good industry practice for daily and weekly checks of vehicles
• Know the requirements Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
• Be able to carry out daily and weekly safety checks on vehicles used for pole erection activities.
• Know the banksman signaller signs to guide a vehicle safely
