Description

This course is intended to provide a delegate with the understanding required to carry out the duties of a PC when deemed suitable by their local line manager and to meet the relevant requirements of the Network Rail Company Standard.

Course Aims

Upon successful completion of the course candidates will be able to:
•Demonstrate a clear understanding of all the relevant safety procedures
•Demonstrate the communication skills required by a protection controller
•Demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles set out in module T II of the Rule book
•Demonstrate a clear understanding in the use of the Sectional Appendix, Network Rail hazard directory, Method Statement, RIMINI principles and RIMPLAN
•Demonstrate the completion of all the relevant documentation
•Demonstrate the ability to implement the emergency procedure resulting from an emergency affecting the safety of line and trains
•Demonstrate the ability to understand and use the phonetic alphabet

•Welcome and Introduction
•Procedure for blocking the line and protection arrangements
•Starting work/Change of work/Change of PC/COSS/SWL
•When work is completed or suspended
•When work is not completed or suspended at an agreed time, resumption of work
•Knowledge assessment
•Practical/Verbal Assessment
•Post course training objectives

Accreditation

PQMS Limited will upload the relevant competence outcome(s) and result(s) to the Sentinel system.

Prerequisites

Candidates must hold a valid COSS cerificate and have carried out a minimum of 6 COSS duties in the previous 6 months.
