Personal Track Safety (AC) Initial inc DCCR


This course is intended for candidates who wish to work on or near the line on Network Rail’s infrastructure and to provide candidates with the skills and underpinning knowledge enabling them to undertake work near or adjacent to DC conductor rails; it is designed to provide the delegates with the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work safely near or adjacent to DC conductor rails.

• Re-certification is required every two years and consists of a two-day classroom-based course and assessment.
• Successful completion of the PTS E-Learning training package is required prior to attendance on the Practical training day.

Course Aims

Upon successful completion of the training the delegate will be able to:
• Demonstrate their ability to interpret correctly the Rule Book GE/RT 8000 Series or Guide to Personal Track Safety or PTS Key Point Card NR9922 and relevant instructions when required to go on or near the line
• Demonstrate their understanding and ability to follow a Safe System of Work
• Describe the principal of the DC electrified system
• Identify the main components if the DC conductor rail systems
• Identify hazards and risks associated with being near or adjacent to the DC conductor rail
• Describe how to cross the DC conductor rail safely
• Describe how to transit tools and equipment safely across the CD conductor rail
• Describe defects that would render insulated tools and equipment unfit for purpose
• Identify hazards associated with working within DC Isolations
• Describe the work safe and Emergency response procedures
• Demonstrate how to inspect insulated tools before use
• Demonstrate the correct application and removal of conductor rail shields
• Identify defective tools and shields
• Identify the three risk control areas as stated in NR/L3/MTC/EP0152

PQMS Limited will upload the relevant competence outcome(s) and result(s) to the Sentinel system.


2 Days


• Must have sufficient command of the English language as detailed in Network Rail company specification NR/S/CTM/021.
• In date Medical screening uploaded to Sentinel.
• In date Drugs and Alcohol screening uploaded to Sentinel.
• Safety Helmet (Blue safety helmets must to be worn as per Network Rail PPE Policy even if the candidate has held PTS before)
• PPE, Hi Visibility Clothing (vest & trousers), to GO/RT3279 & NR/L2/OHS/021 standard
• Safety Boots, with full ankle & Mid Sole protection (Not Rigger Boots)
• Candidate must bring log book with at least 4 entries & 2 management reviews.
• Candidate must be minimum of 18 Years of age.
• Candidate must bring Photographic I.D.
• Before candidates attend this course they will need to have attended and successfully passed the personal track safety (PTS) course.
