Description

This course is intended to provide the basic underpinning knowledge of permanent way construction, components and working methods associated with maintenance, renewal, repair, adjustment and dismantling of permanent way assets.

This course also includes the following safety courses:
• Personal Track Safety Initial
• Direct Current Conductor Rails
• Emergency First Aid at Work
• Manual handling.
• Fire safety awareness.
• Safety awareness.

Course Aims

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be able to identify and describe the function of each of the component parts of the track infrastructure.

Candidates will have the knowledge of how to use the all tools to carry out repair, renewals and maintenance of the railway.

Candidates will gain the knowledge of the main health and safety aspects in order to comply with a safe system of work.

Course Content

The course includes written exams, practical activities and assessment, supported by theory based presentations involving:
• Plain lines, switches and crossings.
• Joints, including insulated joints.
• Adjustment switches.
• Drains.
• Off track and vegetation.
• Civil Engineering Structures.
• TPWS track equipment.
• Lineside cables.
• OHL equipment.

The course also includes the following accreditations.

Accreditation

PQMS will upload the relevant competence outcome(s) and result(s) to the Sentinel system.

• Successful completion of the PTS E-Learning training package is required prior to attendance of this course

• Before attending the candidate must be proven medically fit and drugs and alcohol screened in accordance with, Competence and Training in Track Safety, NR/L2/CTM/021
