Course Aims

This course is essential for those working in high risk (NC4) confined spaces. Carrying out complex operations which present additional risk. The course provides delegates with a thorough understanding of Confined Space procedures for the water industry, the dangers of confined spaces and enables them to carry out an entry into a Confined Space wearing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and escape sets.

At the end of the training course delegates should know: The dangers associated with confined space working, how to risk assess a confined space, how to classify a confined space, the types of Escape Breathing Apparatus and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, how to undertake pre-entry and pre-wearer checks on equipment, why there is a need for periodic examinations of equipment, the emergency procedures when working in a confined space. The use of self contained breathing apparatus.

Course Content

The Course Includes a large amount of practical activities, practical assessment and written exam,which will be supplemented with classroom based tutorials, involving:
• The Confined Spaces Regulations 1997
• Hazardous atmospheres and gas detection monitor
• Operation of safe systems of work for entry into a confined space
• Personal Protective Equipment
• IP ratings, intrinsically safe and ATEX approved
• Equipment pre-use inspection and safe operation
• Fall arrest systems
• Emergency breathing apparatus theory and practical
• Self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) theory and Practical
• Identification of risks and their control
• Weil’s Disease and sewage decontamination
• Use of permit to work control measures
• Safe entry and escape from a confined space
• Safe Entry and Exit of a confined space wearing Self contained breathing apaaratus
• Emergency and rescue procedures

Accreditation

Delegates successfully completing the course will be awarded a City & Guilds Level 2 Qualification
